Muratbey's Export Surge to the EU: Turkish Cheese Hits European Tables After 16 Years
With the lifting of the export ban on dairy products from Turkiye to Europe, Muratbey has begun exporting its products to European Union (EU) countries for the first time. Renowned for delivering healthy and innovative cheese varieties worldwide, Muratbey is now expanding its reach by offering its unique products to EU member countries.
Muratbey, one of the few companies authorized to export under the "European Union Export Approval for Dairy Products" procedure, has successfully passed the strict inspections imposed by the EU and sent its first batch of products to European countries. Known for its commitment to innovation and shaping the future of cheese in Turkiye, Muratbey is now introducing its delicious Turkish cheeses to the European market.
A Major Achievement for Turkiye
Necmi Erol, Chairman of Muratbey, emphasized the significance of the lifting of the export ban, which had been in place for 16 years and posed a major obstacle to export efforts. He stated, “The lifting of the export ban to Europe was a major milestone for our country. After passing the EU’s rigorous inspections, we became one of the few companies to receive approval. Last month, we exported our first products to Europe, including to countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and France. We aim to reach all EU countries by the end of the year.”
Erol believes that this move will contribute significantly to Turkiye's economy, noting that expanding Muratbey's export routes is a source of national pride. He added, “It’s a great achievement for us to bring our unique products to the European market. Our exports, especially of innovative products like Helix, have increased our export share of total revenue from 5% to 18%. With our European exports, we aim to double this figure. The positive feedback we’ve received through TV and social media communications has been very encouraging, and this success will help us achieve our growth goals for 2018.”
Opening Doors for Dairy Exports to Europe
Muratbey has expanded its exports beyond Europe, reaching countries such as the USA, Japan, the Middle East, the Turkic Republics, the Balkans, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. By introducing Turkish cheese to international tables, Muratbey is also among the companies supported by the Turquality Brand Support Program, which aims to increase Turkiye’s exports and brand recognition globally.
Erol shared that with their first export to Europe after 16 years, Muratbey has opened the door for Turkish dairy exports to the EU. He further emphasized, “With the support of Turquality, we are moving forward with confidence towards our goals. After delivering our first products, we closely monitored the shelves and were thrilled with the results and feedback. This confirmed that Europe is eager to see Muratbey's Turkish flavors on their tables. As a brand with high-quality, tasty, and innovative products, we aim to turn Turkish cheese into a global brand.”
Production Technologies R&D Center Driving Industry Innovation
Muratbey continues to lead innovation in the Turkish cheese industry, with a production facility covering 30,000 square meters, over 400 employees, and a daily capacity to process 700 tons of milk. The company has established two Production Technologies R&D Centers, focusing on product development and machinery/technology innovation. These centers contribute to the production of high-value products in Turkish industry, particularly with innovative products like Helix, which stands out for its unique form and flavor.
Muratbey’s Product R&D Center and Machinery/Technology R&D Center have both been accredited by the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology, earning the R&D Center Certificate. Muratbey is the only brand in Turkiye's dairy industry with its own machinery produced in its Machinery R&D Center. This commitment to research and development continues to strengthen Muratbey’s position as an industry leader.
